Marlo is a Registered Social Worker with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counselling and over 12 years’ experience working with children, youth, parents/families, and seniors, in education, healthcare, social service and the community. Some of her work involved violence prevention, working with HIV-Aids patients, addictions and substance abuse, PTSD, anxiety, depression, individual and group counselling, psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, and as a Mental Health Educator where she provided psychoeducation and intervention to youths and parents on topics around mental health and wellness, coping strategies, mindfulness, grief and loss, intergenerational challenges, and managing stress, delivered with a person-centered, trauma informed and cultural approach.
There is often a fear in ‘opening up’ to someone and expressing those intrusive thoughts even to someone you might know because there is a lack of trust and again the fear that comes with expressing one’s thoughts and emotions.
I strive to create a therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy, warmth, and unconditional positive regard which are attributes that I consider to be most important.
